Teaching quilting classes is the most fun activity I have found relating to my world of creative endeavors. The fall brings opportunities to share my small amount of knowledge, picked up over years of watching talented, inspirational teachers, with students who are eager to learn and having great fun at this amazing craft.

In September I taught a Beginning Quilting class where we made a wonderful quilt called Batik Impressions created by Margaret Bogel of Quilt Connection in Murfreesboro. The students really like the versatility of this design and are delighted with how easy it is to make.

I am currently teaching a class called Fall Garden Trellis at Quilt Connection and this is also a very easy quilt to make, once you get the color placement in your head. The variety of looks that you can achieve with this quilt are endless.

I will be teaching a class in December for kids to begin learning to sew by making a pillow case. This will be a really fun project to make something easy that goes together fast and looks great when they are finished!

Getting ready for fall! I made this quilt last year for a fall class I was teaching. I hung it up in my studio and thought I would like to post it here as well. The pattern is Karen Combs' Autumn Star.

Baby Quilt

My granddaughter, Kayla, was visiting last week and we made a baby quilt for her new baby brother or sister that is expected in December. She was an amazingly fast learner! I did not expect to be able to finish the top in the time she was here, but we did finish and she did almost all of the machine quilting as well.

She cut all the strips and stiched them together for the back and then we made the appliques for the front. She zig-zagged around each pattern and then cut them out. She arranged them on the top and then I "qulited" them in place. She quilted all the "squiggles" on top and I added a few flowers and butterflys for her. What a fun project and I am so glad to have had the time to do something so special with my wonderful granddaughter, Kayla.

Christmas in May

Well, I finally finished and sent out the quilt that was intended to be a Christsmas gift for my son, David and daughter-in-law Jenifer. This is from the book "40 Fabulous Quick-Cut Qults" by Evelyn Sloppy. It is a fun project and went together more quickly than it looks like it would.
And the quilting turned out nice, too. This is a panto called "Blowin Wind" from Willow Leaf Studios. It is very easy to do but gives a lovely overall design that blended and softened all those little angles and points. It's hard to see on the front, but this is the back.

Greetings to all,
This is my first post to my new blog and I am so excited about this new medium! Please join me in a discovery of quilting and quilt related fun. Let me know what you are working on and what you want to learn more about. I love to teach quilting classes and sharing with my quilty friends all the techniques I have learned and then learning more from them. This is a new adventure for me and I hope to have many new friends to join me.

Happy quilting!
Susan
